Shifting Your Mindset To Better Market Your Business

Entrepreneurship, at its core, is all about mindset. It's believing you can start from scratch, shake up an industry, solve big problems, and carve out your own space in the market. But nowadays, just having that belief isn't enough. Today's successful entrepreneurs need to keep evolving their mindset, weaving together not just new ideas but a mix of adaptability, resilience, and strategic thinking to really succeed. An entrepreneur can't just settle down, get too comfy, or think they've made it. That's why entrepreneurship isn't a fit for everyone, especially those who can't stay open-minded and adjust fast.

In this blog, we're going to touch on how you can use an entrepreneurial mindset to better market your business. It's not just about being on brand and looking at the analytics; it's about taking hold of a philosophical, creative, and adaptable way of thinking that clears the way for success in a saturated and cluttered world.

This blog is a snippet of a future webinar that goes deeper into how to apply these ideas to your business. If you’re interested in attending, please comment below!

The Mindset of Innovation

The key to cultivating innovation is starting with a problem, not a product. We often mix up the two, focusing on their solution instead of the problem it addresses. By changing this viewpoint and honing in on what bothers the consumer, real innovation can take off.

Here are a couple ways we can shift our innovative mindset:

Dive Deep into Customer Pain

To really get a grip on a problem, we need to dive deep into our potential customers' lives. This goes beyond surveys and focus groups and dives deeper into the minds and psychology of our customers.

But here's the caveat - most people don't realize or are aware of their problems until you unveil them.

Embrace Early Failures for Quicker Learning

An innovative mindset accepts failure as part of the game. But not just any failure — it's about learning from those missteps. These blunders are like gold mines of information that refine the road to success, not roadblocks. The sooner entrepreneurs fail, the better. Quick failures lead to fast learning and improvements.

Failure, when it comes to marketing, gives us so much information. Marketing, in essence, is all about experimentation. Cause and effect. Trials and errors. A/B testing. What's more, marketing is ever changing and WILL eventually fail and force us to adapt and change course. Just because something worked last month, doesn't mean it will work 3 months from now. Or even a week from now.

Just because something fails, doesn't mean you have to go back to the drawing board or create a new product.

It is so important to have an open and adaptable mindset when it comes to marketing your own business. Everything is figure-out-able. Everything is marketable if you can find the right audience. Failure tells us what we can improve on, change, adjust, or shift entirely.

The Strategic Mindset

Strategic minds in the entrepreneurial realm are the ones who are not afraid of change and new things. They are spotting trends before they're crystal clear and taking tough calls ahead of time. They get how market changes, tech progress, and consumer actions are all linked, and they adjust their strategies accordingly.

Strategic entrepreneurs are not set in their ways or stuck on doing things the way it has always been done. They're open to considering newer trends, ideas, or developments. And if it makes sense for their business, they are open to adapting them or adjusting their plans.

Here are a couple ways we can shift our strategic mindset:

Playing the Long Game

A strategic mindset plays the long game. Instead of focusing on quick wins, strategic entrepreneurs create business models that are sustainable and scalable over time. This might mean sacrificing immediate revenue for long-term customer loyalty or investing in emerging technologies before they've become mainstream.

Pivoting with Purpose

Even with the best-laid plans, businesses often need to pivot. The strategic mindset is able to recognize when a pivot is required and to execute it decidedly. A pivot isn't merely a change of direction; it's a change that refocuses the business on its core strengths or a new, better opportunity.

Sometimes we need to think outside of the box - that is why being an entrepreneur is so fascinating. We're constantly thinking of new things, ways, and strategies. We don't want to settle. We want to build and grow our legacy.

The Adaptive Mindset

An adaptive mindset is critical in a world that changes at the speed of light. Entrepreneurs must be ready to adjust to new regulations, economic downturns, global pandemics, and unexpected breakthroughs. 2020 was definitely a year of adaptation for businesses. For storefront businesses, they had to adapt to not having hardly any foot traffic and shift to online shopping. After the pandemic while we were readjusting to a new normal, they had to adapt again to foot traffic with a primary focus on ecommerce and online presence.

Here are a couple ways we can shift our adaptive mindset:

Commit to Continuous Learning

The day an entrepreneur thinks they know everything is the day they fall behind. An adaptive mindset is one that commits to continuous learning and self-improvement. This could involve learning from peers, mentors, or through formal education, but the learning must never stop.

It's one thing to have a great product and great marketing strategies. But that's just half of the equation. Ensuring that you have a cohesive team that is dedicated to building a strong culture and working towards providing the best product and customer experience is what drives momentum for success.

Building Resilience

Resilience is the twin to adaptability. Entrepreneurs need to be able to bend without breaking. Building resilience isn't just about pushing through hard times; it's about learning from them. Resilience is the capacity not just to survive, but to thrive in the face of adversity.

Work with the times, not against them. Every change, shift, or event is an opportunity.

The entrepreneurial mindset isn’t fixed.

It's a living, evolving way to see the world, and it needs constant nurturing. By switching from products to problems, from quick wins to long-lasting impact, and from fear of failure to embracing learning, we set the stage for entrepreneurial success.

In our rapidly changing world, adaptability and resilience are more than just nice qualities to have; they are must-haves for survival. By building a culture of agility and strategic thinking, entrepreneurs can steer their ventures through whatever challenges arise, turning obstacles into opportunities.

The entrepreneurial mindset is not a one-size-fits-all proposition; it's as unique as the individuals who embody it. But by tackling these key areas, any entrepreneur can set the stage for their own success and the success of those they lead. The future demands a new breed of entrepreneur, and it’s time to rise to the challenge.
